Battling Epilepsy

I know many people struggle with this condition and many people with this condition have it alot worse than I do. For example theirs the type that is untreatable or the people who have several seizures in one day making them seemingly handicapped. When I consider the fact that when my eplipsey is active that I only have my seizure about every six months I'm thankful for that. I've fought long and hard and for those of you still fighting I feel the need to tell you don't give up. I was plaqued with seizures for years and forced to take meds that never really suited me. Side effects were horrible. The dizziness and shaky hands and spinning from meds was horrible, but whenever I felt down I leaned on family, friends and most of all God. I know that sounds corny, but he did carry me through much of it. I've been seizure free now for about two years. You see I reached a breaking point and went in for testing. I went in to see if I was eliable for brain surgery. I couldn't take it anymore. The waiting to have another one and when I did which kind would I have? Trust me I've had every kind imanginable.   Unfortunaltely I wasn't eligable, but because of the testing they found a medication mixture that works and that has no side effects. I'm very happy now. Although I must admit I'm on a temporary driving hiatus because I had a few warning signs. So until we are sure nothing happens I'm staying off the road.

I totally understand where you are coming from.  I've had seizures for 19 years.  I was on so many different medications that I can't remember all of them and none of them worked.  I used to have numerous seizures throughout the month.  I had brain surgery, but that worsened my condition.  Like you said I relied on my family, friends, and God also.  I've been seizure-free for over 4 years and was finally able to get my drivers license.  I had never had one until 2005 and that felt great, so like you said, never give up and don't stop praying!!

I am diagnosed with SLE,Lupus Nephritis (kidneys), Lupus Cerebritis (brain) which caused me to have seizures. I don't recall the seizures or even the onset, but my mother and then husband do vividly. My issue is memory problems and forgetting things or names. My kids remember things and I have to just agree, because I DON'T REMEMBER! It frustrates me so much. I thank God that I haven't had a seizure in about 8 yrs.  I am on Tegretol still, and I am allowed to drive.
