struggling with bipolar

I am being treated for bipolar with seroquel, depakote, and celexa.  I am still having problems with lack of energy some mood swings and have gained 50 lbs. since starting the medications. I have been researching bipolar disorder and its treatments to find other options that might be available to me. The weight gain is causing me pain in my back and legs while doing everyday activities making it difficult for me to complete simple tasks, like making the bed, or yard work.  If anyone has any tips or suggestions they would be appreciated. its hard to weed out the treatments that work from some of the so-called "alternative therapies". I am also concerned with interactions between herbal or mineral supplements with my current medications.

I also had a similar experience with those medications.  Right now I'm on depakote, seroquel, celexa, citalpram and abilify.  It was the abilify and celexa that brought on my own weight gain (approx. 40lbs, as well).  Talk to your doctor to see if they will reduce your dosage.  My doctor cut my abilify and celexa in half and although I haven't lost any weight, I'm not gaining it like I was.  I hope this helps!

I have tried just about everything, and finally found that Prozac and Valproic Acid, and it seems to be working for me.  Just about everything that is out there and in just about every combination was tried, and I gained a TON of weight.  After I finally found the right combination, the weight started to come off slowly but surely.  ~Jim
