Living with Celiac Disease

B-12 deficiency-check

Vitamin D defiency-check

Iron deficiency-check

Hypothyroidism-check

It could be worse.  I had no idea what gluten was until November, 2004.

Now, I am keenly aware of it and the damage that it can do to my body.  Since I plan to live a long and healthy life, I must be vigilant every day as far as gluten is concerned.  Is it easy?; it is now.

My friends can't really grasp it.  I explain that gluten is poison to my body and that I can't have even a little.  I explain that gluten can cause stomach cancer for a celiac patient.....that gets their attention.  I explain that my mom died an early death because we did not know about celiac disease and that my first born daughter has tested positive and is living GF.  It's not easy, but it is worth it.

All of the negatives of Celiac Disease can be turned into positives.  So I take B-12 injections, megadoses of D, iron supplements and synthetic thyroid medications......it's better than being sick and tired all of the time.
