Gluten Free Traveler  42  Female
Location: CHANTILLY, VA  USA

My Bio
I am a mom of a 6-year old boy who was diagnosed with Celiac Disease just before he turned two years old. We found it was easy to get up the "learning curve" and cook safe meals at home, but dining out and traveling was more challenging. This inspired me to spend 6 months building a website called GlutenFreeTravelSite.com ( http://www.glutenfreetravelsite.com ) that was launched 18 months ago. It is a review-based site (like a gluten-free version of Yelp.com) that allows people to search or submit reviews of restaurants, grocery stores, hotels/resorts, and cruises anywhere in the world that accommodate gluten-free diets. We have about 600 reviews on the site to date -- mostly of independent restaurants you may not otherwise have heard of. By reading the detailed reviews, you get personal accounts from others with your same needs and challenges. We also launched a section last March called Gluten Free Restaurant Menus with a list of national and regional chain restaurants that offer gluten-free menus (and we include direct links to those menus). I''d love to share advice and experiences with others living with Celiac, and I hope you''ll visit the site to Search for places in your area -- or to Search for safe places in a destination where you''ll be traveling. And please share your own dining and travel experiences by submitting a review ( http://www.glutenfreetravelsite.com/submit.php ). It''s free and easy to do and helps so many others within the Celiac community!

My son was diagnosed just before he turned two. He is now 6 and doing great. There are challenges, however, especially trusting others to prepare meals for him (i.e. eating out, which we enjoy doing). So about 16 months ago, I launched a website called GlutenFreeTravelSite.com ( http://www.glutenfreetravelsite.com ) to help people on gluten-free diets locate places they can safely eat -- both in their area and when traveling. It is a website of user-submitted reviews of restaurants, hotels/resorts, grocery stores, and cruise ships that accommodate gluten-free diets. You can search reviews by geographic region and get first-hand feedback from others with your same challenges and concerns who live near you or have traveled where you're going. You can also submit your own reviews to benefit others living in or traveling to your area. There's also a new section of the site called Gluten Free Restaurant Menus, a listing of national and regional chain restaurants with gluten-free menus, with links to those menus and the restaurants' locations.
