Do you suffer from Panic and Anxiety Attacks?

Panic and anxiety attacks are a normal reaction to stress.  Most people experience anxiety when facing an exam at school, a job interview, and relationship conflicts.  Anxiety can cause physical reactions such as increased heart rate, sweating palms, chest pains, stomach aches and headaches.  Anxiety can be a useful reaction. It can help people focus and concentrate in difficult situations.  However, when people have extreme anxiety over simple, everyday activities it has likely developed into anxiety disorder.

Panic attacks are periods of intense anxiety and fear.  Panic attacks can occur without any obvious triggers and will have physiological reactions such as upset stomach, tremors, and sweat and nausea.  Panic attacks will flood the body with hormones such as adrenaline in response to the intense fear and anxiety.

Panic and anxiety attacks are often linked to agoraphobia, or fear of not being able to escape a terrifying situation.  Panic and anxiety attacks can be caused from mandy things including: heredity, environmental factors (such as frightening world view of parents), various phobias, other mental health conditions, previous situations in which intense fear was experienced and more.

Panic attacks and anxiety disorder can be treated.  Treatment options include counseling, medications, behavior modifications and support groups.

FacetoFace Health offers a support group for people who suffer from anxiety disorder and panic attacks.  You may join any of our support groups anonymously and connect to others who also suffer from this terrifying disorder.  Ask other people about their experiences and treatment responses.
